Schools emerge overtime from the numerous interactions of those involved: staff, students, families, community members... In this regard conversations are particularly important.
That is, schools are continually constructed (and re-constructed) by the interactions of the people involved.
Well developed "rules" can help shape and simplify the actions and interactions of those involved.
Examples:
3 Basic School Rules
- No harm (to self, others or property)
- No disruption (to work of play)
- No offence ( to other members of the school community)
Having a clear, shared understanding and agreement that these 3 basic rules apply to everyone all the time makes it easier to respond constructively when things go wrong
When things go wrong
- Contain situation that has gone wrong
- Repair any harm done (if possible)
- Reduce the likelihood of the situation recurring
